Worldwide – The 440,000 recorded deaths has just received another bump up of 130,000 pouring in from all around the world but most predominantly from the United States of America.
The mortality rate of the COVID-19 virus has shown to be a devastating number when the virus was once likened to a common cold. The world did not expect the spread to be so rapid but in the truest sense of the situation, politics had as much to do with the spread as compared to the actual transmission of the virus through air, water or human contact.
The problem with fully understanding the data used to measure the virus spread is that every country calculates in varying ways where a solid form of viral infection count must be decided with the world leaders so the numbers could remain solidly accurate.
Belgium, being one of the most affected countries in terms of deaths in relation to the size of population, say that they measure the deaths from COVID-19 by relating the deaths in hospitals and care homes are merely suspected numbers and not the official numbers of the actually affected.
The causes of death can vary which makes it hard for Belgium to pinpoint which deaths are COVID-19 related and which are considered excess deaths (deaths that could have been mixed with COVID-19 or that killed the person as a result of the immunity weakening).
South Africa (755 COVID-19 official deaths) went a different route with declaring a strict nationwide lockdown that forced a downward shift in the weekly activities, lessening the transmitted and affected which President of South Africa, President Cyuril Ramaphosa implemented the lockdown on March 26, confining people to their homes which also lessened other numbers such as deaths by car accidents.
“Homicides almost halved with alcohol sales being banned but at the same time we think the other infectious diseases were probably affected as well; the more usual flu or severe pneumonia that come about in winter were also slowed down.” Epidemiologist Professor Debbie Bradshaw of South African Medical Research Council stated.
The United States suffered the most numbers with it’s people utterly divided on which directives are to be followed with many dissidents refusing to cooperate and wear masks or observe social distancing as a result of a violation of their rights to freedom, running up 70,266 COVID-19 official death and 29,986 excess deaths with New York leading the death numbers with numbers higher than other countries in the state alone.
