United States – A new discovery has recently been brought to light as Fitbit users and people with similar health checking accessories have been said to utilize their fitness smart gear in a way that helps them predict the onset of COVID-19 symptoms.
Around 21% of Americans use a smartwatch or health fitness accessory helping make the data driven usage of the trackers bring more to the surface of COVID-19 research as the race for making vaccines goes on around the world to stop the worldwide pandemic.
Fitbit itself recently launched its own Fitbit COVID study where users over the age of 21 may help gather the information and data to help boost the understanding of how to detect COVID-19 infections.
“We hope to be able to predict the onset even before any symptoms start,” stated Stanford researchers who had paired with Fitbit on their website.
Professor Ali Rezai of the WVU’s Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute partnered with smart ring maker Oura Health to also jump into the trend to craft a new study that aims to detect COVD-19 symptoms and asymptomatic tell-tales.
Flu studies for tracking certain data like heart rate, activity, and sleep using the data gathered could possibly predict whether someone would eventually get the flu, COVID-19 or other illness.
“In light of the ongoing flu season and the global pandemic of COVID-19, we see enormous opportunity to improve disease tracking for improved population health,” said the epidemiologist leading the DETECT(Digital Engagement & Tracking for Early Control & Treatment) studyc Dr. Jennifer Radin.
“This forecasting capability will help us get ahead of this pandemic; limit the spread to protect healthcare workers, their families and our communities; and improve our understanding of health recovery,” said Professor Ali Rezai of capabilities of utilizing the accessories, especially the Oura Ring that looks like any piece of jewelry except for it s smart application to monitor increased body temperature, Cognitive, Behavioral and psychological biometrics as well as determining levels of stress and anxiety.
The West Virginia University Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute (WVU) areworking around the close to push the forecasting capability of the Oura Ring to detect symptoms from its current 24 hour forecast to a feasible 3 day forecast to locating positive and confirmed COVID-19 carriers to get them to the hospital before the symptoms occur to give people a fighting chance.
