On Wednesday, the United Nations General Assembly had a moment of history – a 141 to 5 vote condemning Russia for its aggression against Ukraine, demanding that Moscow withdraw its military forces and stop the unnecessary fighting.
Of the assembly’s 193 members, 141 condemned Russia, 35 were absent, and 5 were against condemnation.
The 5 countries against condemnation were Russia, Belarus, North Korea, Eritrea and Syria.
Among the 141 countries that condemned Russia, many do not have diplomatic ties or any diplomatic relation whatsoever with one another, and to see so many countries be on the same side during a world crises is very rejoicing, giving us hope for a friendly future.
Israel, Afghanistan, Indonesia, Kuwait, Lebanon, Malaysia, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Yemen, who are mostly unfriendly with one another, all voted in favor of condemning Russia.
Take the following countries –
Albania & Serbia
Israel & Qatar
Saudi Arabia & Lebanon
These countries have have had a very rough history with one another, and they proved to the world in this assembly that they can put their differences aside and be on the same page, uniting together for a better future during times like these.
After the assembly, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations said “Vote yes if you believe UN member states – including your own – have a right to sovereignty and territorial integrity. Vote yes if you believe Russia should be held to account for its actions.”
