In a series of seismic events, the southern Philippines experienced a 6.6 magnitude earthquake on Sunday, as reported by the US Geological Survey (USGS). This follows a substantial magnitude 7.6 quake just a day prior, resulting in a number of powerful aftershocks.

According to the USGS, the recent earthquake occurred at approximately 6:36 pm local time (1036 GMT) northeast of Bislig on Mindanao island. The quake had a depth of 10 km below the Earth’s surface, as indicated by the GFZ.

The aftermath of the earlier magnitude 7.6 earthquake, which struck late on December 2, was marked by tragic consequences. At least two individuals lost their lives, and several others sustained injuries. The quake, with its epicenter off the southern Philippines, triggered tsunami warnings that were subsequently lifted.

The continuous seismic activity in the region has raised concerns about the safety of the affected communities. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation to assess potential damages and provide necessary assistance.

It is crucial for residents in the affected areas to remain vigilant and follow any safety guidelines issued by local authorities. The recent earthquakes highlight the importance of preparedness and community resilience in the face of natural disasters.
