In the years that followed, Republicans pursued various policies, including adopting a more conservative approach to issues like immigration, health care, and the working class.

If the GOP is to remain a viable party in the long term, it must win over Latinos, and the constituencies needed to do so are real Americans. As in the past, the current Republican Party must seek new constituencies, but the electorate needed to “win” is the “real Americans,” according to the group.

The first group to form, the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC), is the first of its kind in the country, though the odds against its formation remain.

The new effort comes as a vote looms in the US House of Representatives that is likely to unseat Republican Liz Cheney, R-Ariz., for keeping quiet about the repeated lies about Liz’s election.

Taylor said the nascent movement would support candidates who support its principles, whether they are moderates or independents. Give the GOP a chance together, stay calm, and you have to take your breath away, “Taylor told NBC News.

But if the rest of the party doesn’t get on board, he predicted a civil war, and if that happens, the White House will likely strike back. NPR’s Scott Detrow says the legislative team has a long history of conflicts of interest with the Republican National Committee and House Republican leadership.

Yet he forgets that he invited McConnell and McCarthy to a private meeting in the Oval Office with President Trump and his chief of staff, John Kelly.

None of the names supporting the latest effort currently serves as elected Republicans, and attempts to channel anti-Trump sentiment into the “Never Trump” movement in spring 2016 were largely unsuccessful.
