It is worth remembering that the first candidate to defeat Trump in the 2016 Republican primary was Ted Cruz, who voiced his reservations about Trump for 2020 long before he was involved in mob-inciting attacks on Capitol Hill. Rarely discussed, but it’s notable that Trump himself was behind it.
