Observers, including Muro, point out that Mormons make up two-thirds of the state’s population, but only about 1.5 percent of the population.

In fact, Utah Valley, a small part that includes Provo, Salt Lake City, and Ogden and which accounts for eighty percent of the state’s population, looks very much like Silicon Valley in some ways. Founded after helping Intel and other semiconductor manufacturers establish themselves, it has helped attract other local technology companies. This post has been updated to include more information about the work of Utah State University’s Slippery Rock University.

Dubbed the “Silicon Slopes” between Salt Lake City and Provo, where Lehi is headquartered, it has filled some of Utah’s top tech jobs in recent years, making it the state’s second-largest tech hub. Utah has done a lot to position itself as the next Silicon Valley in terms of technology talent and job creation.

With so much diversity, it can be difficult to find the options that best suit your needs, but there are amazing talent in the state, and at the same time it is extremely accessible from all parts of the US. It’s also a great place for Utah-based technology companies to build great community cultures where people love to work.

Austin Miller, CEO of IsoTalent, says he knows of several companies that have split their time between California and Utah. The bungalow, a host of Bay Area start-ups, is now claiming Silicon Slopes.

Meanwhile, the Provo-Orem region of Utah took first place, and Salt Lake City rose to fourth place, according to a recent report from the US Department of Labor. I told the head of direct sales at Paystand that Utah has the kind of talent it needs to sell, market, implement and support.

The report, which ranks cities by the number of jobs available in the technology sector over the next five years, found that California is likely to be more affected than any other state by the pandemic shift to remote work. Utah, the report said, is likely to be a hotspot for companies like Qualtrics, Vivint and SmartCitizen. The San Jose, California area was the second largest – with the highest employment growth, followed by Seattle, where there was a similar number, for example.

It also found Utah had three of the cities in the top 15 for job growth, up from two in 2014 and one in 2013. Muro was intrigued to discover that much of these jobs in the sector come from well-known companies – well-known companies that have opened offices in Utah, not startups worth billions of dollars.

The states of Utah, Colorado and Idaho appear as the top destinations for Californians, many of whom are talking about resettlement, the report shows. According to the Milken Institute, large cities in the Rockies, including Denver, Salt Lake City, San Francisco and San Jose, California, have recently been named as one of the top performing cities in the country. These places tend to be highly dependent on a single industry, and some, for example, tend to stand alone rather than cluster.

The name “Silicon Slopes” was derived from a website and nonprofit organization of the same name, founded by Domo founder and CEO James to promote the state’s growing tech ecosystem. While cities in the western US top the rankings, California’s once-thriving technology centers are falling. San Jose dropped from fifth to 22nd, while San Francisco dropped from first to 24th, according to the report.

The law passed last year provides for nearly $20 million to create a $1.5 billion investment fund for tech startups in the state.

In an era of unprecedented technological innovation, a growing technology center is being touted as the next Silicon Valley. For early pioneers like James, the growth and enthusiasm around Silicon Slopes is testament to the Utah start-up – companies that have toiled in the dark for years.

It has made its way to the top of the list of Utah’s top 10 tech start-ups, according to a new report from Utah State University’s College of Business.

Utah’s tech industry is growing faster than any other state in the nation, and its growth in technology jobs is at the top, closely followed by California, New York, California and New Jersey, the report said. That’s pretty cool for the 80-mile stretch known as Silicon Slopes, from the upstart Lehi to Salt Lake City, but not so much for Utah’s other technology centers.

The slopes have long been known for their snow-sure outdoor adventures and have become a tech oasis in the west of Intermountain. Those who work in technology are proud parents of what has been developed, and those who work in it are proud parents of those who are developing.
