Delaware, US. – President Trump and his campaign partner were taken by surprise when presidential candidate Joe Biden selected his new running mate, Kamala Harris who was quick to rebuke the president by being the first female black Asian-American running mate who also has Asian in her blood, making her a demographic favorite.
“Today, he takes his place in the ongoing story of America’s march toward equality and justice as the only person who served alongside the first Black president, and has chosen the first Black woman as his running mate,” said Kamala Harris of her running partner.
The choosing of Mrs. Harris was met with an approval count of 9 out 10 Democrats as found in the polls.
The bond between Joe Bidden and Kamala Harris is one of personal connections as Mr. Biden’s son Beau was friends with Mrs. Harris before his untimely passing in 2015 due to cancer.
Despite the pandemic,Mrs. Harris has high hopes for Mr. Biden’s run as she had long admired his commitment to family and country stating he was ready ready to meet all the challenges from the mishaps of the Trump administration’s handling of the COVID-19 virus spread as well as the erupting unrest among the people through racial tensions.
“This is a moment of real consequence for America.“Everything we care about — our economy, our health, our kids, the kind of country we live in — it’s all on the line.”
“America is crying out for leadership, yet we have a president who cares more about himself than the people who elected him, a president who is making every challenge we face even more difficult to solve,” said Mrs. Harris in her speech while wearing a mask in Joe Biden’s hometown of Delaware in a near empty high school gymnasium as COVID-19 restrictions have forced the speech to be delivered virtually.
Mr. Biden has declared his formal acceptance for the Democratic presidential nomination with the selection of Mrs. Harris when he attends the Democratic party convention via the internet for the same reasons forcing their acceptance speech to be broadcast online with no crowds, compared to President Trump’s large stadium gathering 2 months back.
“This morning, all across the nation, little girls woke up – especially little black and brown girls, who so often feel overlooked and undervalued in their communities – today, just maybe, they’re seeing themselves in the first time in a new way. As the stuff of presidents, and vice presidents,” said presidential candidate Joe Biden upon choosing Kamala Harris.
Kamala Harris, a woman whose parents were immigrants being from two races, mother from India and father from Jamaica, recalled her parents’ involvement in the U.S. civil rights movement when she was young and her friendship with Beau Biden, attorney general of Delaware at the time when Mrs. Harris was attorney general in California stressing that much like Biden, “my family means everything to me.”
