Washington, U.S -Democrats are in opposition as the Republicans in the White House tried to propose a plan of $1 trillion to create a solution in the new Corona-virus Aid Bill to replace the expiring old bill that had granted $600 a week on top of unemployment benefits for U.S citizens unable to work during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Some items in the bill alarmed a few of the senators upon its unveiling, citing that the proposed number wasn’t enough while requests for “a new FBI building” with no relation to the COVID-19 issue seemed dubious.
“We’ll do something. We’re going to take care of the people.” President Donald J. Trump said when asked whether Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin would be able to broker a deal with the Democratic party in congress in order to extend the federal benefit in supplement of the new bill.
House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer stated that Mr. Mnuchin left a meeting with them in the late afternoon where it would have to continue in further days ahead citing “We have a lot of work to do.”
Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Mrs. Pelosi did not see eye to eye as both did not come to a decent compromise with House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi calling the bill a “liability on steroids”.
The confusions stemmed from the agendas of each party as the Republican party revolted against a $1 trillion dollar cost for the bill but the House had passed a $3 million plan just this May.
The newly proposed Coronavirus Aid Bill would entail that Americans get $1,200 each and that it would provide billions of dollars in loans to small businesses and hospitals.
The stocks in the U.S had been affected with word of the confusion of the bill’s definition in the White House, urging the government to come to a consensus before too much of the economy has been hit. It is estimated that half of the Senate would oppose the plan with 53 members rejecting it.
Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer said “People want to work, Republican friends. They just don’t have jobs to do it. We’re not going to let them starve while that happens.” The Republican Party proposed a $200 a week benefit for the unemployed where the Democrats explained that $200 a week will not be feasible for the American people deeming it unacceptable to the current $600 a week set up about to expire.
